Degreasing
Oils, greases, metalworking fluids, waxes and other processing residues can affect the reliable further processing of components. Before painting, coating, bonding, welding or electroplating, surfaces therefore need to be specifically cleaned of these contaminants.
Industrial degreasing is an important step in chemical surface pretreatment. Depending on the substrate, type of contamination and cleaning process, aqueous or solvent-based degreasers can be used.
For more than 30 years, RHOBA-Chemie has been developing specialized chemicals for cleaning and degreasing a wide range of surfaces. We support you in selecting and optimizing the right cleaning process for your application.
Industrial degreasing involves the targeted removal of oil- and grease-based residues as well as organic contaminants from a material surface. Specially formulated cleaning and degreasing agents are used for this purpose.
The appropriate degreasing solution depends, among other factors, on the substrate, the type and level of contamination, and the cleaning process used.
Our degreasers are used across a wide range of industries, including:
Different degreasing methods are available depending on component geometry, level of contamination, production volume and the required degree of cleanliness:
In immersion cleaning, components are completely immersed in a degreasing bath. This method is particularly suitable for components with complex geometries and hard-to-reach areas, as well as for cleaning larger quantities of parts.
In spray cleaning, the cleaning solution is applied directly to the component surface. The method can be integrated into automated cleaning systems and is suitable, among other applications, for the industrial cleaning of larger components.
RHOBA SUPRA V101 and RHOBA SUPRA V102, for example, are designed for use in spray applications as well as single- and multi-chamber cleaning systems.
In wipe cleaning, the degreaser is applied using a cloth or wiping applicator. This method is suitable for individual components or smaller surfaces, but is rarely used in industrial practice today.
In ultrasonic cleaning, components are immersed in a cleaning bath. Ultrasound generates cavitation, which can support the cleaning process, particularly in hard-to-reach areas and on components with intricate geometries.
When selecting a degreasing agent, the type of contamination, substrate and cleaning process all play an important role.
Water-based cleaners and degreasers are used in industrial cleaning processes, particularly in immersion, spray and ultrasonic cleaning systems. Depending on the formulation, they can be used to remove fats, oils, soot, resinous residues and corrosion protection agents.
One example is RHOBA LAVIA W303. This cleaning and degreasing concentrate can be used for immersion and ultrasonic cleaning, spray applications, as well as steam and high-pressure cleaning.
Solvent-based cold cleaners and degreasers are particularly suitable for removing oil- and grease-based contaminants as well as stubborn organic residues. Depending on the product, these may include adhesive residues, resins or waxes.
RHOBA LAVIA L103 is a ready-to-use, fast-evaporating cold cleaner and degreaser for removing oils, adhesive residues, resinous deposits and industrial dirt.
For heavily contaminated or difficult-to-degrease surfaces, a degreasing booster can support the existing cleaning process. RHOBA LAVIA Z302 was specifically developed to improve the degreasing and cleaning performance of existing processes.
The additive provides wetting, dispersing and emulsifying properties and can be used in immersion or spray applications, depending on the process. It can also help extend the service life of the cleaning bath.
Degreasing can also be specifically enhanced in existing pretreatment processes. For example, the addition of a degreasing booster is already provided for RHOBA SUPRA V101 and V102 when dealing with particularly heavy contamination.
Reliable degreasing provides the basis for subsequent surface treatment steps. In industrial pretreatment processes, cleaning and degreasing can, for example, be combined with pickling, rust removal, phosphating, passivation or other treatment methods.
RHOBA SUPRA V101 and V102 combine degreasing and phosphating in a single process step. Both products are designed for ferrous materials and light metals and can be used as a basis for subsequent painting or coating processes.
RHOBA-Chemie develops cleaners and degreasers for specific industrial requirements. For us, effective cleaning is not just about removing contamination. The interaction between the substrate, cleaning chemistry, process and equipment technology is equally important.
